I just have to share an amazing movie I found by accident on Hulu the other day. Astral City: A Spiritual Journey. It’s Brazillian and has subtitles but the filming and story are so good you are not sidetracked by reading them. I won’t spoil it for you … …
It starts out with a man dying. He “comes to” in a place we would all “recognize” as a depiction of hell and he starts narrating his journey of after death, life including his confusion when he finds other inhabitants of his journey referring to him as “Suicide”. He had died during an operation.
Astoundingly it never takes on a religious tone. Perhaps the closest it gets is mentioning reincarnation as a possibility. There are moments when it looked like it was going to go all religiosity … but no! It was just the limitations of the physical world combined with what race consciousness has come to a consensus about … the combination created amazingly creative pictures that set the scene for a more metaphysical message. (Meta = beyond; physical) Somehow this writer, director, producers and cast managed to combine life reality, possible Alien Life, reincarnation, heaven, hell and purgatory concepts into a strong possibility that makes sense! The main message was: The choices we make give us the results we get. There is no escaping responsibility for our selves and our lives.
I was amazed and admiring of the fine film making, the wonderful creativity and the simple fact that in Brazil such movies are made! Although it begins in a rather dark way it soon makes it clear that there is something more than just the footage to watch for. I highly recommend it. I’m going to watch it again!! It is perhaps the best movie I have ever seen, all totaled, and I’m a fan of Moulin Rouge, Powder, Camelot, Patch Adams, etc.! I just had to share this … enjoy!
